I have you registered for two teams. Each team may run two robots during the performance round but only one robot is on the game field at time. Each robot may have two operators. During the competition, each team may have 4 robot operators, two for each robot.
A school that registers two teams has the opportunity to run 4 robots and have 8 robot operators. Other team members may have been involved in robot design, solving the mission challenges, or programming support, but they are not allowed at the competition table. They are allowed on the gym floor to support the team.
The tables inside the gym are for the robot operators and the programmers. Other team members should sit in the stands with their coaches. During the robot performance rounds, all team members are allowed on the gym floor to support the team, but only 4 students are allowed at the competition table.
At the tournament planning meeting, we asked schools with large numbers of students to stage outside the gym. We have two covered eating areas outside the gym or you may bring your own tables and chairs if you would like to set up closer to the gym. Verdugo Woodlands has a large group and this is what they do.
Another item we discussed was the robot performance round schedule. Because several schools requested multiple performance rounds, we've scheduled one practice round and two rounds for score. There will only be 5 minutes between the practice rounds and 4 minutes between the rounds for score. Teams will not be able to practice on the competition tables during the tournament.
We also discussed expectations for the students, coaches, and parents. Only students are allowed at the competition tables. Coaches and parents are not allowed at the table and they are spectators only. Coaches and parents should not be giving the students instructions during the performance round and they should not handle the robots or computers on the competition floor. If a team has concerns during the tournament, only the students may communicate with the officials.
